FRUITS AND VEGETABLES?
Fruits and vegetables are one of the most convenient foods. They provide us with thousands of beneficial substances that provide the essential nutrients for growth and renewal; protect our bodies from disease and have a medicinal effect.
Fruits and some vegetables contain substantial amounts of carbohydrates and vitamins. All in which give us our energy, regulate our metabolism, and help convert fats and carbohydrates into energy. Fruits and vegetables also contain minerals that are vital to nerve and muscle function.
Fruits and vegetables help protect our bodies from some major diseases like cancer and heart disease. They contain substances like anti oxidants, such as vitamin C, beta-carotene, and vitamin E that protect our bodies from disease.
Fruits and vegetables can act as medicine. Natural medicine that is. For example, blueberries can help with diarrhea and ginger has been known to cure motion sickness.
Fruits and vegetables are a perfect food supplement. A diet that includes 2-4 servings of fruits and 3-5 servings of vegetables spread out through out the day is recommended by the RDA.
One serving of fruit equals one medium apple, banana, or orange; 1/2 cup of chopped fruit and berries; or 3/4 cup of fruit juice.
One serving of vegetables equals 1 cup of raw, leafy veggies; 1/2 cup of other vegetables.
