HOME >> STRENGTH TRAINING >>NEGATIVE REPS

Definition:   A negative is when someone assist
in lifting a weight about 20-40 percent more than an individual could lift. Once lifted, the individual slowly
lowers the weight without help. Your muscles can generally handle more weight when lowering the weight
than when you lift the weight. The idea behind negatives is to really fatigue the muscle.

Negative reps are highly dangerous and can lead into overtraining. Beginners shouldn't try negative reps due
to the muscle soreness they cause. No more than once every 6-8 weeks performing negatives.
